DALTON, Mass. — Now that the town has selected Blue Strike Environmental as the consultant for its climate action plan, development and community engagement have commenced. Consultants for Blue Strike attended the recent Green Committee meeting to get the members' opinions on important information about the town, such as potential opportunities or barriers they may face during development. The committee wants to develop a climate action plan to achieve net-zero by 2050 by seeking strategies to decrease the town's dependence on fossil fuels for homes, businesses, municipal facilities, and vehicles. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Methuselah Bar and Lounge was back in front of the Licensing Board after a stabbing outside the bar and allegations of overserving. On Monday, the board continued a hearing for Methuselah so that the establishment and police can discuss the May 10 incident. The bar's attorney William Martin said he received the police's detailed reasoning for the hearing just over an hour before the meeting and that a public records request was needed for the report from that night.
"I think that that is unfair, unwarranted, and inappropriate," he said.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Innovation Center (BIC), announced that they have been named a Phase II: Create winner by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for the DOE's Manufacture of Advanced Key Energy Infrastructure Technologies (MAKE IT) Strategies Track. The Strategies Track program is designed to build interest, engagement, and community involvement around clean energy manufacturing by encouraging the applicant and stakeholders to develop a customized roadmap to bring manufacturing activity to their region.  DALTON, Mass. — The Board of Health has ordered that a formal plan be in place to address the dilapidated condition of the house at 27 Mountain View Terrace. Health Agent Agnes Witkowski has cited several safety issues with the home, including clutter blocking egresses, a collapsing roof and porch, mold throughout the house, especially in the basement where there is water damage, and the lack of water, electricity, and gas. Neighbors also attended the Board of Health meeting earlier this month to complain about the rats that have infested their homes coming from the "abandoned" property and the unkept grass in the backyard.  DALTON, Mass. — The Fire District has launched its new website last week. Fire Chief Christian Tobin has described the previous site as "lightyears" behind where it needed to be and that the district needed "an interactive website that's exciting, that draws people into the Fire District." The district has been working to update its website since April to contribute toward efforts to improve communication with the community. Tobin has also instituted community meetings to gain feedback and brainstorm solutions to the district's challenges. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Respiratory Care program at Berkshire Community College (BCC), which offers an associate in science degree to students who complete the program, has seen growth over the past few years. So much so that, with more than 70 applications received, the enrollment cap has now been increased to meet demand. BCC Dean of Nursing, Health & Wellness Lori Moon said the Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) Pipeline has been a contributor to the increase in interest for the program. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Executive O?ce of Energy and Environmental A?airs (EEA) awarded an $80,000 Healthy Soils Plan Implementation Challenge Grant to the Berkshire Conservation District. The grant will be used to fund no-till equipment program enhancements. Currently, renters of the District's 12-foot no-till drill must have access to a 125-horsepower tractor to operate the 12-foot no-till drill - a bigger tractor than most small farms have access to. In addition, a vehicle rated for towing 9,000 pounds, without trailer brakes, is required to tow it to the field.  Wahconah Regional High School graduate and UMass Boston sophomore Aryianna Garceau earned all-America honors in the 100-meter hurdles at May's NCAA Division III Championships. Garceau took sixth in the finals with a time of 14.05 seconds after qualifying for the finals with a time of 13.97, which broke a 35-year school record. In earning all-America honors, Garceau became the 20th Beacon to achieve that honor and the first since 2018. Earlier in May, Garceau was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association's all-Region team. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Planners of the Springside bike skills park would like more support from the city and more time but the Parks Commission is ready to see wheels moving.
They first came to the commission in 2020 looking to donate a pump track and bike skills park to Pittsfield, citing the plot behind Reid Middle School as a great spot for accessibility to the Morningside neighborhood.
In four years, the cost of asphalt alone has doubled. The 2021 design's cost is seeing a reported increase of about 50 percent, originally quoted for $400,000.
Recognizing the need to pivot, planners last month asked the commission for more time to re-evaluate the project and fundraise.

She grew up in Woods Hole, attended Falmouth Public Schools and pursued her undergraduate work at the University of Iowa. After briefly working for the Falmouth Enterprise, she applied (on a dare from a fellow colleague and after a drive through a Nor'easter to Western Mass to meet with the recruiter) to the Army's Baylor Graduate Program for Physical Therapy, one of 13 applicants chosen, and received her full commission as a second lieutenant. BOSTON — Governor Maura T. Healey nominated Frederick DeCubellis, Gregory Teran and Amanda Ward as Associate Justices to the District Court. The nominees will now be considered by the Governor's Council for confirmation.
