Hancock Man Pleads Guilty of Possession of Child Pornography| 01:59PM / Thursday, March 30, 2023 | |
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Monday, March 27 Dale Wilson, of Hancock, pleaded guilty in Superior Court to two counts of Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Dissemination of Child Pornography. The charges stem from an investigation by the Berkshire County State Police Detective Unit based on a CyberTip. The location of the offense was at the defendant's residence. At the time of the offense, he was 21. According to state sentencing guidelines Possession (272, 29C) is a level 3 offense carrying a maximum of 2.5 in the House of Corrections or 5 years in state prison.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The reimagining of historic Wahconah Park is one step closer with a designer being put forth to the city.
The park's restoration committee on Wednesday recommended S3 Design Inc. for the job after the firm scored highest against two competitors. The recommendation will go to Mayor Linda Tyer and then to the Parks Commission, who will communicate the vote back to the purchasing agent so that they can ask for a scope and price proposal.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The North Street ballot question was put to rest on Tuesday.
In a 7-2 vote, the City Council rescinded a Jan. 24 vote on Councilor at Large Karen Kalinowsky's petition to place a question on the Nov. 7 ballot that asks voters if North Street should return to a four-lane way.
Because Councilor at Large Peter White announced his intention to motion to rescind, it required a majority vote rather than a two-thirds vote, as clarified by City Solicitor Stephen Pagnotta.
Kalinowksy insisted that constituents want a say in the road configuration. She feels that the city did not properly consult the council and residents before making the change.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield Rotary Club will hold their annual auction, their largest fundraiser. The annual auction will be held at Berkshire Hills Country Club Saturday April 1 starting at 5:00 p.m. The auction starts at 6:30 p.m. This year's theme is Mardi Gras. Each year, the Pittsfield Rotary Club distributes more than $90,000 in community support raised through special events, fundraisers, and donations during the year. The club's annual food drive results in food donated to local food banks, as well as $1,000 cash donations to each of ten local food pantries and kitchens. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Licensing Board heard of two local favorites' return on Monday.
An entertainment and bowling alley license was approved for K&M Bowling, which will have a grand opening on Friday in the former Imperial Bowl on Dalton Avenue. A liquor license transfer was also approved for the former Tahiti Takeout, which relatives of the shuttered Bobby Hudpuckers plan to reopen as "Hudpuckers."
City residents Kari and Mark Mathes and other family members renovated the candlepin alley into tenpin bowling after purchasing it in November. Robert Ireland ran the lanes for 45 years before retiring.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With $1 million in funding secured, the second phase of Springside House renovations is a go.
The City Council on Tuesday accepted a $500,000 federal Save America's Treasures grant with a free cash match of $500,000 for interior renovations to the 160-year-old home.
An equal contribution from the city is a requirement of the award. Free cash was proposed for the allotment, as Pittsfield ended 2022 with a balance of around $17 million.
"When we have these historic properties, we need to make sure we're good stewards of them," Councilor at Large Peter White said.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Four people have been charged for lifting thousands of dollars in merchandise from the Ulta Beauty store in Berkshire Crossing. Police were called to the store on Monday night by employees of the beauty products salon and arrested four people — two adults and two juveniles — who had more than $5,000 worth of products on them. DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board continued its review of the proposed fiscal 2024 budget, going over the line items for the tax collector and town debt. The tax collector's budget $122,013, up 9.41 percent largely from wage increases and software upgrades. The collector's salary is increasing from $58,481 to $61,776 and the assistant from $37,608 to $39,031, both step increases. The department is upgrading its software because the current iteration requires a restart every 30 days to reboot because it is still a disk-operating system, Tax Collector Melissa Davis said.
