BArT Charter Basketball Advances to League Semi-Final

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Sawyer Moser Monday scored 20 points to lead the Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public School basketball team to a 58-40 win over Hadley's Hartsbrook School in the River Valley Athletic League tournament.   The Wolf Pack used a 15-2 run in the first quarter to take control of the game, and the margin never dipped below 12 points the rest of the way.   Corey Lynch scored 15, and Matt Lizzo scored 11 for BArT in a game played at the Armory. Central Berkshire Regional Eyes 3% Budget Increase

DALTON, Mass. — The Central Berkshire Regional School District is looking at a $1 million budget increase for fiscal 2024.    The School Committee on Thursday gave initial approval to an operating budget of $30,078,694 that is up 3.42 percent, or $994,646, from this year's $29,084,048.   The approved tentative capital budget, as recommended by the finance subcommittee, is  $2,110,239. This is down $51,354 over this year, or about 2.4 percent.   Together, they total about a 3 percent increase over this year.   The district's projected revenue sources amount to $30,078,694, with assessments from the seven towns contributing 59.09 percent, or

Three Arrested In Adams, Pittsfield Drug Seizure

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After an investigation, Police arrested three believed to be involved in a county-wide drug distribution operation.   On Friday, Feb. 10, members of the North Adams Police Department, Adams Police Department, Pittsfield Police Department, Berkshire Sheriff's Office, Berkshire County Drug Task Force, and Berkshire County Special Response Team simultaneously executed search warrants on two residences located at 11 Quaker St., Apt 2  in Adams, and 74 Linden St. Apt 4 in Pittsfield    As a result of the investigation, three individuals were arrested and two illegally possessed firearms were seized, one of which was a customized fully automatic

Pittsfield Council to Vote on $500K for Springside House Renovations

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council on Tuesday will vote on a $500,000 free cash ask for interior renovations to the historic Springside House.

This is a requirement of the $500,000 Save America's Treasures matching grant that Pittsfield received in December.

This is the second phase of renovations to the mid-1800s Italianate mansion formerly known as Elmhurst. It has sat vacant since 2007 after headquartering the city's Parks and Recreation Department for more than 50 years.

Veteran Spotlight: Navy Veteran Rick O'Neill

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Rick O'Neill served his country in the Navy as an aviation mechanic, third class from 1967–1971. The Pittsfield native enlisted at the age of 19.    "I worked on stock cars, helping a guy named Walter Pollart. Turns out he was a Navy recruiter," he said with a laugh.    He did his basic training at Great Lakes, Ill., and offered this: "It was pretty good ... they break you down to build you up. MassDEP Penalizes Highway Auto Salvage Facility in Northampton

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has penalized 182 MTR, LLC, owner of Highway Auto Salvage, Inc. in Northampton, $7,470 for failure to dispose of septage in accordance with the requirements of the Commonwealth's wastewater regulations.    Evidence of the septage disposal violation was observed on Dec. 31, 2021, by MassDEP when responding to a complaint alleging that an employee of Highway Auto Salvage had pumped the contents of a septic tank from the onsite sewage disposal system to an area adjacent to the Mill River in violation of the Commonwealth's groundwater discharge regulations. 10x10 Returns for 12th Annual Festival

RMV Advisory: Crash Report System Replacement

Valentine's Day Fundraiser Shows Love to Pittsfield Artist

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The community is rallying around a local artist in need of a heart transplant with a Valentine's Day fundraiser.

On Tuesday, the "Give a Heart" event to benefit Mike Carty will run from 5 to midnight at Methuselah Bar and Lounge on North Street. It will include live music, raffles, and mayoral candidates Peter Marchetti and John Krol as guest bartenders.
