Pittsfield Local Receipts Trending High, Cannabis Revenues DroppingBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Halfway through fiscal 2023, the city's collected more than 50 percent of its projected receipts and seems on track to take in more than expected. "I think we are tracking in a way where local receipts will yet again exceed the actuals, will exceed our estimates," Finance Director Matthew Kerwood reported to the Finance subcommittee on Thursday, adding that this is one of the ways that free cash is generated. Some $6,604,208 was collected by the end of the second quarter on Dec. 31, 51.4 percent of the estimated total of $12,845,725. Free cash is now at more than $17 million, up from around $5.3 million in fiscal 2021.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Registration for Pittsfield Little League is now open for the Majors division, ages 9 to 12, and the Triple A division, ages 7 and 8. Tryouts for the Majors division will be either the last weekend in March or the first weekend in April. Players who are not selected for the Majors division will be assigned to teams in the Triple A division. The league is open to girls and boys who reside in Pittsfield, Lenox, Lanesboro and a small area of Richmond. The fee to play is $75. There is a $15 discount for more than one participant per family.  In 2022, Congress increased the amount an individual can contribute to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) as well as a 401(k), 403(b), and most 457 plans. If you have not already, it is time to increase your contributions for 2023 to take advantage of this opportunity. If you missed it, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced in October 2022 the largest-ever annual increase in 401(k) contributions.  LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — After several months of negotiating with the property owner, the proposed $5.9 million police and ambulance building has a location: 405 South Main St. The 9-acre parcel, the site of the driving range for the former Skyline Country Club, is owned by Pittsfield's Mill Town Capital and its purchase will require approval at a special town meeting.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Bed Bath & Beyond on Merrill Road will be closing in the coming months, one of 150 stores being shuttered nationwide. The Massachusetts closures in this second round include the Burlington, Raynham, North Dartmouth, and Dedham locations. The closing were announced last August and the company also intends laying off 20 percent of its corporate employees. Full list of store closures here.
