Pittsfield Airport Navigation Easement Acquisitions Almost Closed

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Gale Associates updated the Airport Commission on the status of various projects during its meeting last week.     The Runway 14 navigation easement acquisitions are almost closed. Gale Associates submitted the forms along with all the necessary backup documentation to the state Department of Transportation on March 10.   Once the city is reimbursed for the outstanding MassDOT balance, the project will be removed from Gale's update, civil engineer Mark Ottariano said.    The permit design for tree clearing went out to bid starting March 29 and will remain open for three weeks, he said.    The bids will be opened at

Bird e-scooters Return to Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield and Bird have teamed up again to bring shared e-scooters back to the city.   "After a successful first launch of e-scooters in Pittsfield, I am excited to welcome back Bird for 2023. Crosby Kids Get Visit From 'Flurry Fighter' Snowplow

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A state plow named by Crosby School's fourth-grade class is fighting snow on city streets.

On Monday, state Department of Transportation representatives traveled to the elementary school to congratulate the students on winning the snowplow naming contest.

The victorious title, "Flurry Fighter," was a mixture of the 13 students' top choices.

Khalessi Daury-Jackson enjoyed the collaboration.

"We all came up with it as a class," she explained. "Randomly, half the class said one name, the other half said another name so we kind of just smushed it together and we came up with that."

Tickets On Sale for Berkshire Flyer Service between NYC and Pittsfield

Pittsfield Temporary Yard Waste Drop Off

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Beginning on Tuesday, April 11, Pittsfield residents will be able to temporarily drop off yard waste at the Lenox Transfer Station located at 68 Willow Creek Road, Lenox.   During this temporary period, Pittsfield residents can bring, free of charge, the following items: Grass clippings Leaves Brush Tree branches and limbs (under 4ft in length) Proof of Pittsfield residency will need to be provided. No bags are allowed. The Lenox Transfer Station will be open Tuesday to Friday, from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

Central Berkshire Regional Eyes 4% Budget Increase

DALTON, Mass. — The Finance Committee voted last to recommend a Central Berkshire Regional School District that is up 4.19 percent for fiscal 2024.   That increase down from the nearly 6 percent from the intial draft. This year's budget is $29,084,048 and next year's is forecast at $30,301,466, up $1,217,418.    Overall, the total assessments to the seven towns are up 2.7 percent at $17,505,621, a $387,744 increase.    Dalton's total assessment is $9,064,671, a 2.01 increase over this year. Of that, operating funds are $8,752,286 and transportation is $312,385; $1,269,442 in capital expenses are down about $29,000.   Dalton is responsible for

FEMA Awards Mass Funds for COVID-19 Hospital Cleaning Costs

BOSTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be sending more than $1.4 million to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to reimburse it for the increased cost of cleaning at state-run health care facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.   The $1,401,885 Public Assistance grant will reimburse the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for the cost of contracting for daily cleaning and disinfection of state-run medical facilities between July 2020 and January 2021 to allow them to safely operate in a pandemic environment.   The four facilities were the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain, Tewksbury Hospital, Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children in Canton

Pittsfield Officials Convene on Opioid Crisis in PCTV Forum

Now, officials are working to understand the opioid epidemic and reduce its impact on the community.

Dalton Board of Health OKs New Services for Cosmetic Tattoo Artist

DALTON, Mass. — The Board of Health approved licenses for the Arch for lip blushing, flux freckles, and fine line/tiny tattoos.    Prior to this, cosmetic studio was only licensed for cosmetic makeup, or permanent tattooing of the eyebrows   The Arch is one half of a dual business venture — The Arch and Rose Quartz Spatique — owned by cosmetic tattoo artist Ashley Ciepiela and licensed esthetician Rebecca Moore at 395 Main St.   Ciepiela hopes to start offering these additional services in the summer. Mass Awarded $4 M in SMART Grants
