Governor Launches New Climate-Focused Forestry Initiative

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced a new initiative to ensure Massachusetts' forests are managed to optimize carbon sequestration and mitigate climate harms as part of meeting the state's aggressive climate goals.    "Forests as Climate Solutions" will expand existing state programs, invest in forest conservation, enhance a network of forest reserves, and develop forest management guidelines based on the latest climate science. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The 43 graduates of the William Stickney Pittsfield Adult Learning Center (WSPALC) walked proudly in their decorated black caps to receive their diplomas on Thursday evening.   Families, friends, faculty, and staff gathered in the Taconic High School auditorium to celebrate the graduates who earned their adult diplomas or passed the General Educational Development Test or High School Equivalency Test.   Throughout the night speakers shared their stories on how their time at the center gave them the confidence and drive to achieve their dreams.   The word "dropout" should not be stigmatized; it is just choosing to follow a different path,

Lanesborough Public Safety Committee to Query Residents on Rejected Proposal

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Public Safety Building Committee wants to know specifics of why residents voted down the nearly $6 million dollar police and EMS complex in March.

About a month into its work, the reconstituted committee is mapping out a survey for this purpose.

"This committee was criticized for not being transparent and not having the public involved," Chair Mark Siegars said about the now-dissolved Police Station Committee. "And we're going to just go the opposite direction."

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Homeless campers are still prevalent in Pittsfield parks and the city continues to respond with compassionate enforcement.

Parks, Open Space, and Natural Resource Program Manager James McGrath updated the Homelessness Advisory Committee on Wednesday about the situation that was exacerbated at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"What we are seeing across the city, especially now that the weather is getting warmer, we're finding that there are a lot more unhoused folks popping up in our parks," he said.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield’s Wahconah Park Restoration Committee will be hosting a public meeting on Thursday, June 15 at 7:00p.m.    This meeting will take place at the Berkshire Athenaeum located at 1 Wendell Avenue in the auditorium.   At this meeting, the Wahconah Park Restoration Committee and the design team that is working with the city will share an overview of the project. Attendees will also have an opportunity to share their thoughts on the future vision for an improved facility.
