BOSTON — The city of Boston and the Boston Symphony Orchestra dedicated "Seiji Ozawa Square" on Thursday with signage on the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and St. Stephen Street.   Ozawa was the BSO's esteemed music director for 29 years, from 1973 to 2002. Eagles Band's Free Concert Has Military Theme

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Eagles Concert Band is bringing a free concert at the Colonial Theatre on Friday, Nov. 7.   This is the band's 18th year performing at the Colonial. New principal conductor David Diggs said he has decided to perform music from composer John Philip Sousa, but not his famous marches.    "One of the ones that I think is very unique to the program is we're going to be playing Sousa, but we're not going to be playing a Sousa march. Berkshire County Historical Society Offers: Talks, Teas and Toddles

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Beginning Nov. 9, the Berkshire County Historical Society will host a special series of fund-raising readings featuring four authors with strong ties to the Berkshires.    The readings begin at 2 pm on Nov. 9, Nov. 23, Dec. 7, and Dec. 14. They take place in Herman Melville’s historic study where he wrote Moby-Dick inspired by his view of Mount Greylock. Following the readings, guests can interact with the authors while enjoying tea, hot toddies and a selection of sweets. Nominees for Ninth Berkshire Theatre Awards Announced

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Board of the Berkshire Theatre Critics Association (BTCA) has announced the nominees for the 2025 Berkshire Theatre Awards, colloquially known as The Berkies.

The awards will be presented on the evening of Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsfield. This is the ninth time the awards will be presented to honor and celebrate the excellence and diversity of theatre in the greater Berkshire region. 

In addition, The Larry Murray Award for Community Outreach and Support through Theater will be presented. The Sharon Playhouse in Sharon, Conn., won the award last year for their community and education efforts.

BCHS Explores Melville's Travels in the 1840s

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — This talk, "A Whale Ship was My Yale College and My Harvard: Herman Melville's Whaling Years," by Arrowhead docent and researcher Peter Hacunda will explore Melville's life during the early 1840s.   The talk considers how this time shaped Melville and why a whaleship was Melville's "Yale College and [his] Harvard."    The lecture will be held on Oct 8 at 5:30 pm at Arrowhead.
