PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Two Berkshire County dam projects were among 21 across the state receiving funding from the state's Dam and Seawall Program. Pittsfield's Sandwash Reservoir dam rehabilitation project is receiving $250,000 toward design and permitting; the Plunkett Dam spillway in Hinsdale is getting $82,500 for design and permitting. The Sandwash Reservoir is owned by the city of Pittsfield but located in the town of Washington. It flows into the Farnham Reservoir and from there into the Ashley intake to the Ashley Water Treatment Plant. While considered low risk as of 2019, a breach of the dam would send up to 260 million gallons of water into both 0 Comments

LENOX, Mass. -- Beginning soccer players in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade are welcome to join the Mighty Kickers program this fall. The development program is open to children from any community. Sessnions are held Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School from Sept. 9 through Oct. 21, except for Oct. 7. Players will meet with a certified coach or high school varsity or college level player to learn the basics of the sport through fun games and drills. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The conservation commission on Thursday OKed a West Housatonic Street demolition and issued several certificates of compliance. The panel issued a negative determination on a request for determination of applicability for the demolition of a commercial building at 108 West Housatonic Street, which is in a riverfront area associated with the west branch of the Housatonic River. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — In response to a growing need for dental hygienists in Western Massachusetts, and to help attract students to the field, Berkshire Community College (BCC) has entered into an articulation agreement with Springfield Technical Community College (STCC). The agreement stipulates that BCC students may complete all 27 credits of their general education classes at BCC and are guaranteed a transfer of those credits to STCC towards an Associate in Science in Dental Hygiene degree, provided that students have earned a minimum grade of C in all equivalent courses.
