Dalton Fire District Sees Potential in Former Dalton Garage

The building was a fire station back in the 1950s but cannot accommodate this era's larger fire trucks. The district is looking to use it for office, meeting and training space.  DALTON, Mass. — The Dalton Garage would open the doors to so many possibilities, members of the Fire District said during a recent walk-through of the building.    The district reconsidered the prospect of purchasing the former automotive garage, located at 385 Main St., across from the fire station, last month. Berkshire Harm Reduction Sets Open House at New Site

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Harm Reduction will hold an open house to show off its new Pittsfield location and to provide the public with an opportunity to learn more about its work addressing a critical community need.    The open house will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 42 Summer St., second floor.   The new location has expanded space for the many services Berkshire Harm Reduction provides, including HIV health and prevention, syringe services, overdose education and prevention and Hepatitis C, HIV and STI testing and hepatitis C treatment. Pittsfield Working on Decades-Old Drainage Issue in Ward 3

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is working to solve a more than 30-year-old drainage problem on Newell Street.

The Public Works and Utilities committee heard an update Monday on a project to address flooding at 9 Newell St. Water runoff reaching the drainage outlet behind the property is flooding it, unable to reach an intermittent stream meant to carry that runoff.

"This is the situation I inherited and I want to make sure that the residents and the families around that area can have this issue resolved. They've been told that it would have been done this year and it's a problem," Ward 3 Councilor Matthew Wrinn said.

Latinas413 Awarded Grant to Bolster Core Programs

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Latinas413, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Latina women in Berkshire County, is announced the receipt of a  grant of $75,000 from Barr Foundation that will significantly support core programming and mission for the next three years.    Latinas413 is a first and second generation immigrant organization.    Originally established in 2020, by Liliana Atanaco Garcia as the virtual group  "Latinas in the Berkshires." MassRMV Announces 2024 Low Number Plate Lottery

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is announcing applications for the 2024 Low Number Plate Lottery will be available online at myRMV Online Service Center beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024.

To be eligible, applicants must apply for this year's lottery by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024. Winners will be notified by mail if selected for a low number plate.  

This year, there are 298 plates available through the low plate lottery. Some of the available low plates include 34, 255, 1912, 2X, 33V, B8, and Z88.
