Governor Nominates Members of Housing Court, Appeals Court

BOSTON — Governor Maura T. Healey today nominated Benjamin Adeyinka for the Housing Court and Robert "Robin" Toone for the Appeals Court. The nominees will now be considered by the Governor's Council for confirmation.

  PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Morgan Windram-Geddes said she was going to spend much of the holiday making food to bring to her brother’s house to celebrate Thanksgiving with family.   Her extended family got to eat with the fastest woman at the eighth annual Thankful 5K.   Windram-Geddes of Glendale, Mass., was the 10th racer overall to cross the finish line at Berkshire Community College among the hundreds of runners and walkers to set off on West Street at 9 a.m. Thursday morning.   The event, sponsored by MountainOne and organized by the Berkshire Running Center, helped more than 400 participants work up an appetite and helped raise money and generate

MDAR Exercised Right of First Refusal for Dalton Bardin Property

DALTON, Mass. — The town is close to being relieved of its responsibility of the so-called Bardin property.    During the Select Board meeting last week it was announced that the state Department of Agricultural Resources has enacted its right of first refusal. The MDAR has rights to the property through a 30-year-old Agricultural Preservation Restriction.   The town owns about 148 acres of the non-working farm within Dalton; another four acres is across the border in Windsor.   The board signed the purchase-and-sale agreement during a meeting in September with Charlotte Lind Crane for the amount of $150,000. Pittsfield Receiving $500K State Grant for Pontoosuc Lake Park Redesign

PITTSFIELD, Mass. —The state has fully funded a grant request for the revisioning of Pontoosuc Lake Park, a well-loved gem for sightseeing and recreation.  

The $500,000 boost is being matched by city funds, totaling $1 million, and construction is expected to begin next summer.

State, United Way Announce New Partnership

Man Stabbed at Pittsfield Bar on Thanksgiving Eve

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A man stabbed in a local bar Thanksgiving eve is expected to survive after showing up at Berkshire Medical Center's emergency room.

Police and ambulance responded to the report of the stabbing at Thistle and Mirth at 46 West St. at about 9:40 p.m.

A large number of patrons were exiting the bar and ramen restaurant when police arrived and, according to Lt. John Mazzeo, they found evidence of the stabbing but not the victim. 

The man, who was not identified, arrived at BMC shortly afterward.

Thanksgiving at the Berkshire Dream Center

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — There will be a Thanksgiving meal at the Dream Center on Thanksgiving, Nov. 23.   A full restaurant-style meal will be served in the dining room from 4:30-5:30 pm. There will be a take-out hour from 6:00-7:00 pm.   There will be live music and homemade pies.   The Berkshire Dream Center is located at 475 Tyler St.   The Dream Center anticipates serving more than 300 people. Zebra Mussel eDNA Detection in Onota Lake

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Zebra mussel eDNA has been detected at Onota Lake by the Commonwealth's Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).    This discovery was made as part of regular monitoring of the lake for these types of invasive species. This detection only impacts boating operations at the lake and has no impact to other recreational uses of the lake.   Zebra mussels are invasive freshwater mollusks that present a variety of ecological, recreational, and economic concerns. BCC Celebrates Free Tuition Program for Nursing Students

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Health-care students without a prior degree are getting a boost from the state through the Community College Nursing Scholarship Program.

This news was celebrated in Berkshire Community College's SIM lab on Monday with legislators, students, and staff. College President Ellen Kennedy explained that the new program allows students to attend nursing and pre-nursing programs for free.
