The polling station at Morningside Community School ready for voters. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is having a quiet and smooth preliminary election day.
About halfway through polling, mayoral candidates Peter Marchetti, Karen Kalinowsky and John Krol were feeling hopeful while holding signs in front of Providence Court, the polling location for Ward 3A.
The three candidates have been traveling the city to connect with voters of all wards and precincts.
Kalinowsky cited the rainy weather earlier Tuesday that had since subsided and encouraged people to go out and vote.
"Some of the people that are holding signs for me say that some areas have been steady,"

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — An agreement has been reached between the district and unionized paraprofessional workers that ceases the use of a staffing agency to fill vacancies, increases pay, and withdraws litigation.
The School Committee last week approved a settlement agreement with the Pittsfield Federation of School Employees Local 1315 paraprofessional unit. While the vote was taken in open session, it was discussed during executive session.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Sunday, Sept. 17, just after 3:00pm, patrol officers with the Pittsfield Police Department (PPD) responded to 65 Columbus Avenue for a reported assault involving a firearm. According to a police report, investigating officers spoke with the victim who reported that he had been threatened by a man with a handgun. As a result of the ensuing investigation, officers arrested 59 year old Pittsfield resident Michael Barnes and charged him with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, to wit Handgun.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Voters will trim the mayoral, Ward 2 and Ward 7 races with a preliminary election today, Tuesday. Polls open at 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. for all wards and precincts. Find your polling station here. Each of the three contested positions will be narrowed down to two candidates in preparation for the general election on Nov. 7.
Peter Marchetti, Karen Kalinowsky and John Krol are running to replace Mayor Linda Tyer, who is not seeking re-election.
Marchetti and Kalinowsky both hold at-large seats on the City Council; Marchetti is the current president. Krol formerly represented Ward 6 on the council.

 DALTON, Mass. — The Americans with Disabilities Act Committee is exploring how to replace the stair lift in Town Hall. The town's current lift, located in the police station, is not always functional, ADA coordinator Alyssa Maschino told the committee last week. The committee intended on applying for a Municipal Americans with Disabilities Act Improvement grant to cover the cost of the replacement. However, the project was delayed because the current lift servicer, Garaventa Lift, informed the town that the new weight limit went from 400 pounds to to 650 pounds. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Monday Sept. 18 at 8:22 a.m. the Pittsfield Fire Department responded to 565 West Housatonic St for multiple callers reporting a building fire. Upon arrival Engine 1 observed heavy smoke pushing out of eves around the entire single story bungalow style residence. An initial report received from a caller was the occupants were not home, but two dogs were inside the building. E-1 stretched a hose line to the front door and made entry into the building.
