Two-Car Collision Closes Lakeway Drive, Valentine Road Intersection | 04:53PM / Sunday, September 10, 2023 | |
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Sunday, Sept.10, 2023, at approximately 1:20 pm, Pittsfield Police, Fire and County, and Lanesborough Ambulance responded to the intersection of Lakeway and Valentine Road for a report of a two-car crash with injuries and entrapment. A 2017 Subaru was traveling westbound on Lakeway Drive approaching the intersection with Valentine Road when it failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with a northbound 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. As a result of the impact, the Hyundai rolled onto the driver's side and came to rest off the roadway. Both operators were transported to Berkshire Medical Center for what appeared to be 0 Comments

 BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced the availability of an initial $15 million in funding from the Natural Disaster Recovery Program for Agriculture to Massachusetts farms that were adversely affected by one or more of the extreme weather events in 2023. This funding will provide financial relief to farmers impacted by the February freeze, May frost, and July floods so they can recover and rebuild their growing operations.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The National Alliance on Mental Illness is celebrating 39 years of providing mental health resources to Berkshire County.
The non-profit organization will mark the anniversary on Sept. 19 with an annual meeting and awards dinner at Proprietor's Lodge from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The evening will feature dinner, live music, games, and special guest Ken Duckworth, the chief medical officer of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and author of "You Are Not Alone."

Hancock Domestic Dispute Ends in State Police Shooting Staff Reports,

HANCOCK, Mass. —A State Police trooper responding to a domestic incident shot and killed an individual Saturday morning. According to State Police, and a statement from the Berkshire District Attorney's Office, the officer was called to a Hancock residence about 7 a.m. and was confronted by an armed individual who would not back down despite requests to stop. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed at the scene. County Ambulance responded and pronounced the individual dead. The statement did not identify the officer or individual or what the individual was armed with. Hancock does not have a police force and is covered by the State Police. DALTON, Mass. — The Zoning Board of Appeals approved a variance to install a fence 26 feet off the center of the road at the residence located at 112 Kimberly Drive. The board said it approved this variance because the property's topography and shape makes it difficult to adhere to the town's bylaw. The bylaw requires that fences be installed 50 feet in from the center of the road and requires a 4-foot fence. The installation of a 6-foot colonial style fence is an the effort to improve security, obtain more privacy, and lessen visibility of a lot that has become overgrown, Eric Pratt said. Pittsfield Man Sentenced to 25 Years Staff Reports ,

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Wednesday, Sept. 6 Jason McFadden, 43 of Pittsfield, appeared before Judge Hogan at Berkshire Superior Court and pleaded guilty to a charge of Armed Career Criminal. Judge Hogan sentenced McFadden to 25 years in prison, serving 15 years before being eligible for parole, to be followed by five years' probation. McFadden originally requested a bench trial but entered a guilty plea after a related August jury trial resulted in 13 guilty verdicts. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — In an effort to embrace greener energy sources while protecting the interest of residents, the city has proposed a zoning amendment for battery energy storage systems.
On Tuesday, the Community Development Board got a first look at the proposal. There were several items that the panel would like City Planner Jacinta Williams to revisit so it was tabled until a later date.
Williams explained that it aims to protect critical parts of the community with a mind to continuing development and acknowledging that technology is changing.
