 PITTSFIELD , Mass — A monster fifth inning led the Post 68 Juniors to a 4-0 win against North Adams Post 125 in American Legion baseball action on Saturday at Buddy Pellerin Field. Late in the game for Post 68, a rally started which led to their ultimate victory. A combination of hits from Derek Roy, David Wildgoose and, Ethan O’Donnell resulted in two of Post 68’s runs scored. On the bump, Gavin and Ethan O’Donnell combined for seven strikeouts. “Today was a hot one,” Ethan said, “Had to work consistently and get flyouts and groundouts.” And the pair combined to allow just three total hits.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The first-grade class at Capeless Elementary School recently enjoyed a surprise visit from some very special guests. Jennifer Meehan, vice president of community engagement at MountainOne, stopped by the school to present and read MountainOne's new children's storybook, "How to Climb a Mountain," to 35 students. The book features Mo, the MountainOne Spokesgoat, and aims to promote positive life lessons, literacy, and financial education, stated a press release. Meehan was joined by Mo the Spokesgoat.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Splash pads at the Common and Clapp Park were operational just in time for this week's summer heat wave. This comes after vandals stripped "major components" needed to operate the facilities during the winter. Both were switched on Tuesday morning.
"The major components of the splash pad were vandalized, so the copper was stripped out of the control rooms not only at the Common and Clapp Park, but also at Durant Park and some of the Little League fields," Park, Open Space, and Natural Resource Program Manager James McGrath told the Parks Commission that evening.
"So we had a major problem over the wintertime."

Sawyer Layne struck out eight hitters in three innings on the mound and hit a game-tying homer to lead off the sixth as Hot Dog Ranch took a 4-3 win over East Side Cafe to decide the first title of the newly unified Pittsfield LL. East Side Cafe took a lead early at Clapp Park when Hector Reyes drove in a pair of runs with a shot to center field to make it 2-0. The location has not been occupied by a financial institution since late 2021. This is the first branch for Coop Bank since opening its Dalton Avenue location in 1999. The Williams Street branch features a new drive-up ATM/ITM, two drive-up teller lanes, safe deposit boxes and four interior teller windows. LENOX, Mass. -- Eight teams earned championships last weekend in the finals of the Berkshire County Youth Soccer League spring season. Teams of boys and girls in grades 5-6 and 7-8 participated in the season-ending tournament, organized by Donna Laroque and Nigel Gayle and hosted mostly at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School. Shaker Village's Director and CEO Carrie Holland says the stamps reaffirm the village's legacy in American history. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Four images of Hancock Shaker Village are now immortalized in U.S. Postal Service stamps.
These are part of a collection of 12 stamps that commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Shakers' arrival in America and highlight the religious group's knack for minimalist, functional, and high-quality products. Director and CEO Carrie Holland said these stamps, in some ways, reaffirm the village's legacy as a significant part of American history.

DALTON, Mass. — The Finance Committee made a number of interdepartmental and reserve fund transfers during its meeting last week. The reserve fund balance is currently $58,000, Town Manager Thomas Hutcheson said. The committee also approved a reserve fund transfer to the employee fringe benefits account for $1,200; the current balance is $183.55. The town originally appropriated $2,114. It also approved the transfer of $1,500 from the reserve fund to the Medicare account, which currently has a balance of $4,510. The town originally appropriated $50,000.
