BRPC Kicks Off Road Safety Action Plan with Public Information Sessions

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) federal funding program is bringing resources to Berkshire County to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on our roads, with the goal of reaching zero.

Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (BRPC) is kicking off this effort under the banner of their STEPS Initiative: the Safe Travel and Equity Plan for our Streets, and will soon begin the data gathering process.

To help answer the question of how we prevent more people from experiencing traffic crashes in the future, BRPC is inviting residents of Berkshire County to share their experiences that might not be found in a statewide database.

Dalton Traffic Commission Advises on Senior Center Voting

DALTON, Mass. — The Traffic Commission will be sending the Select Board a letter with recommendations on ways to improve voting at the Senior Center.    During its meeting on Wednesday, Traffic Commission Chair William Drosehn informed everyone that the Select Board has requested they draft a letter about how voting at the Senior Center has been going thus far.    Last August, the Select Board voted to relocate the town's polling station to the Senior Center to improve accessibility for voters with mobility impairments.    There have been two elections at the new location so far: the primary and local elections. Heat Index Could Break 100 Degrees This Week

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The next few days are going to be a scorcher for New England.    The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has issued a heat advisory from noon to Tuesday to 8 p.m. on Thursday.   Temperatures are expected in the low 90s but the high humidity could spike the heat index to 105 degrees.    Numerous agencies and meteorologists are offering guidance on staying cool and out of the sun. Local cooling centers include libraries and senior centers.    Misting fans will be located at Persip Park and the Ralph J. Two Contested Races in Lanesborough Election

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Voters will choose a new Select Board member through a contested race in Tuesday's town election.

Polls open at noon in the Town Hall community room and will close at 8 p.m.

Longtime Planning Board member Joseph Trybus and Deborah Maynard, also on the board, are running for the three-year term.

John Goerlach declined to run again after serving Lanesborough for 18 years, being first elected in 2006.

When prompted for closing words at the last meeting, Goerlach thanked the townspeople for their support and said it has been a pleasure to serve them.

Timothy Sorrell has another year on his term and Michael Murphy was re-elected last year for a three-year

Post 68 Juniors Blank North Adams

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Gavin O'Donnell went 2-for-3 at the plate and threw two innings of relief on Sunday to help the Pittsfield Post 68 Juniors an 11-0 win over North Adams Post 128 in Americna Legion Baseball action.   Matt Egan threw four innings to earn the win on the mound. Egan struck out four, walked three and scattered three hits.   Devin Reynolds went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, and Simon Mele doubled in a seven-hit attack for Pittsfield.   Mason Canata, J.J. Lanesborough Coffeeshop Opens in Honor of Jacob Galliher

Ivy Galliher thanks the community and her late husband's family and friends for their support in welcoming her and in achieving the dream she and her late husband had.  LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Bittersweet tears were shed on Saturday morning as community members surrounded the family and friends of fallen Air Force Staff Sgt. Jacob Galliher at the opening of Jake's Java coffee shop.    The coffee shop, located at 20 Williamstown Road, was opened in honor of Galliher and will stand as a monument to him and his memory.    Galliher, 24, was killed on Nov. 29 when the CV-22 Osprey he was on crashed off the coast of Japan during a joint military

BCC Announces Summer Swimming Pool Hours

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The swimming pool at Berkshire Community College (BCC), located in Paterson Field House, opens for the summer season on Saturday, June 22 and remains open to the public until Saturday, Aug. 31.    Hours of operation for public use are Monday-Friday, 9 am-6:45 pm, and Saturday-Sunday, 9 am-5:45 pm. The pool will be closed in observation of Independence Day on Thursday, July 4.    On weekdays from 11 am-noon and 1-1:15 pm, the pool is shared with the YMCA Day Camp. Dalton Select Board Approves Eversource Special Permit
