MILFORD, Mass. — State officials say a firewall on the 911 emergency system prevented calls from getting through on Tuesday, disrupting the system for a couple hours. The interruptions started at about 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday when the State 911 Department became aware of the situation. The disruption lasted approximately two hours until operation was fully restored at 3:15 p.m. Although some calls may not have gone through, the system allows dispatch centers to identify the phone number of callers and return those calls, according to a statement from the department. The Bandits (5-1) took over sole possession of first place in the league's 20-and-over division over the Kracken (4-1) with the win.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Wednesday, June 26, the Berkshire County Historical Society will present "Sailing Towards My Father," a one-man play about Herman Melville performed by Stephen Collins and written and directed by Carl A. Rossi.
The play chronicles Melville's life from youth to old age, concentrating on his evolution as a writer and his complex relationship with God; his parents and siblings; his wife and children; and Nathaniel Hawthorne. The performance takes place at Herman Melville's historic home Arrowhead at 5:30 pm. Tickets are available by using the BOOK NOW button at berkshirehistory.org; $15 BCHS Members, $20 non-members.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield's Affordable Housing Trust (AHT) is seeking applications for American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds that have been allocated to the Trust for the purpose of creating affordable housing opportunities for Pittsfield residents.
The AHT has $500,000 in ARPA funding that it is seeking to award to affordable housing projects in Pittsfield that are eligible based upon the requirements.

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll administration announced that it is delivering more than $13 million for 14 projects to support local transportation infrastructure and other needs. The awards come from revenue generated by the Fair Share Amendment and are matching funds for projects and initiatives eligible for federal discretionary grants offered by the U.S. Department of Transportation. In Berkshire County, the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission will receive $49,649 to develop a safety action plan.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The District Attorney's Office kicked off a "summer of water safety" at Onota Lake during Tuesday's high temperatures. At the same time, the city announced that lifeguards will return to the well-loved swimming spot.
"Today's weather cannot be any more suited for why we're gathered here today," DA Timothy Shugrue said. "On days like these, families, summer campers, boaters, and adults will most likely head to one of the beautiful Berkshires lakes to cool off."

Voting was slow but steady at Lanesborough Town Hall. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The town had a steady and sweltering election day that saw Deborah Maynard elected to the Select Board. Maynard outpolled Joseph Trybus 181-87 to fill the seat left vacant by longtime board member John Goerlach. About halfway through polling hours, about 150 people had turned out in the 90-degree weather to cast votes for the Select Board, Finance Committee, Planning Board, library trustee, and town moderator. On Monday, June 17, Tyler Sumner was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for one count of murder in the first degree.
