BOSTON — Governor Maura T. Healey, Lieutenant Governor Kimberley Driscoll and Transportation Secretary Gina Fiandaca announced that, after a comprehensive search, they will be appointing Phillip Eng as the next General Manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). Eng is an engineer with nearly 40 years of experience in transportation, including as President of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) Long Island Rail Road and Interim President of New York City Transit.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Four individuals were recognized on Wednesday night for the contributions they have made to the community, particularly how they have affected the lives of children and adults with different abilities and their families. The presentations were made by the Berkshire office of the state Department of Developmental Services at the Berkshire Athenaeum. Pittsfield Police Officer Darren Derby, Heather Derby and Pittsfield comfort dog Officer Winston were presented the William Johnson Unsung Hero Award.  The NASDAQ 100 index jumped more than 20 percent from its December 2022 lows. The textbook definition indicates that when a market does that, it officially leaves a bear market and enters the bull market territory. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Three candidates have announced an intent to run for the Ward 3 council seat: Alisa Costa, Matthew Wrinn and William "Bill" Tyer.
Costa is a local advocate with a career in public policy and community organizing, Wrinn has a background in criminal justice and community involvement, and Tyer has served on various committees and boards in the community.
Costa announced her candidacy in early March.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Community members spoke out against the recent addition of more student resource officers in Pittsfield schools at City Council on Tuesday. Superintendent Joseph Curtis announced last week that two additional school resource officers had been assigned to the district's middle and high schools. SROs are sworn law enforcement officers who are stationed on a school campus.
The residents speaking at council on Tuesday called for alternatives to policing in schools and cited the death of Miguel Estrella as an incident where the authorities' response to a mental health crisis ended in tragedy.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city of Pittsfield's paving list for 2023 is now available on the city's website, cityofpittsfield.org. The document, "2023 Road Work Program," can be accessed on the Department of Public Services page or by clicking here. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Monday, March 27 Dale Wilson, of Hancock, pleaded guilty in Superior Court to two counts of Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Dissemination of Child Pornography. The charges stem from an investigation by the Berkshire County State Police Detective Unit based on a CyberTip. The location of the offense was at the defendant's residence. At the time of the offense, he was 21. According to state sentencing guidelines Possession (272, 29C) is a level 3 offense carrying a maximum of 2.5 in the House of Corrections or 5 years in state prison.
