PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Traffic Commission on Thursday voted in favor of two "No Right on Red" signs and heard plans for the intersection of Linden Street and Onota Street. Councilor at Large Karen Kalinowsky requested signs that prohibit right turns on red lights at the intersection of North Street and Columbus Avenue and at the intersection of West Street and Center Street.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) Wellness Program wants area residents to improve their health and well-being through the third year of Berkshire 150. Berkshire 150 is a community wellness program promoting exercise over a 5-week period, with the goal of exercising at least 150 minutes a week. This is the number of minutes recommended by the Centers for Disease Control to help maintain a healthy lifestyle, in addition to eating the right foods. Berkshire 150 runs from Sunday, April 16 to Saturday, May 21 and registration is currently open. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council will tackle a $25,000 request on Tuesday from the Cable Advisory Committee to obtain legal counsel for the Spectrum contract renewal.
This includes a review of the license and charter, planning of ascertainment, gathering information on community needs, negotiations, and drafting the initial renewal license. The services from Stoneham attorney William Solomon come at a rate of $200 an hour.
The committee met last Thursday to draft a timeline for its ascertainment, or public input, process. Because the chosen attorney was not present and funding has not yet been secured, they mapped out priority actions to be done by the

DALTON, Mass. — The Planning Board last week approved the special permit for Citizens Energy Corp.'s solar energy project on the closed landfill with a number of conditions. The conditions from the special permit that was granted back in 2014 were retained. These include the payment of all back taxes, with any associated fees or charges, plus any current real estate taxes prior to issuance of a building or electrical permit. The project must comply with performance standards and all applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws, rules, and regulations. The Estrellas have been advocating for reforms on how authorities deal with people suffering mental issues and how police respond to such incidents. Right, balloons rise over the park. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Balloons soared over the downtown on Sunday in remembrance of Miguel Estrella, who was fatally shot by police on March 25, 2022. His family has spent the last year advocating for better mental health support and police accountability. On Sunday, they marked the year anniversary of his death with a vigil in Persip Park under clear, bright skies.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Around 100 people stood at Park Square on Saturday morning to honor the 27 Berkshire County residents who were killed in action in Vietnam.
The annual ceremony recognizes National Vietnam War Veterans Day, which is on March 29, and is sponsored by the James E. Callahan Berkshire Chapter 65 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion Post 68, and VFW Post 448.
Emcee John Harding, who is a Marine Corps veteran, thanked the attendees for showing up on the frigid day that saw snow flurries.
"We were worried about it anybody would show up but you showed your true colors when you support us Vietnam vets," he said.
