Jimmy Fund Fund-Raiser Returns June 28

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – A local fund-raiser for the Jimmy Fund keeps getting bigger and bigger.   Striking out Cancer in the Berkshires returns for a fifth year on Saturday, June 28, on Buddy Pellerin Field at Clapp Park.   Organizer Joe DiCicco, who started the event in 2021 in honor of his late wife, never expected to still be planning for the event five years later.   “It is amazing,” he said recently. “I just didn’t know what to expect five years ago, but every year it gets bigger.”   And it gets more successful.   In 2024, Striking Out Cancer in the Berkshires raised $10,400, its best year yet, adding to a total of close to

Pittsfield Fire Department Welcomes New Engine

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Fire Department welcomed a new engine to its Somerset Avenue station on Friday.

Per tradition, firefighters pushed the 42,000-pound vehicle into the bay for good luck. The 2025 Pierce Saber arrived from the state of Florida the night before and will go online in a few weeks.

It will replace the 2005 Engine 2, which will go on reserve as Engine 7. 

"This will be in service for the next 20 years here," Chief Thomas Sammons said. "This truck will see a lot of these guys that are here today retire."

BHS Opens Registration for Annual 4th of July 5K Race

PITTSFIELD, Mass — Registration has begun for the annual Berkshire Health Systems 4th of July 5K Race, held just prior to the Pittsfield Fourth of July Parade.    In 2024 over one thousand runners participated in the 5K, which runs along the parade route in downtown Pittsfield.   Registration is $35 for adult runners who register prior to July 1st, and $40 for adult in-person registration at the Berkshire Running Center on July 2 or 3. Recount Called for Dalton May 12 Election

DALTON, Mass. — The town clerk's office will recount the ballots from the May 12 local election to verify the results.    William Drosehn, a Select Board candidate, called for a recount last week "to find deeper information about the election results."    Drosehn emphasized that he has followed the rules for requesting a recount, countering concerns raised about his compliance with these procedures.   Town Clerk Heather Hunt stated that any candidate has the right to request a recount within 10 days of an election, which Drosehn did.   Following the election, rumors spread that nonresidents had voted on May 12; this was something
