 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield Community Television is holding "Eatza Pizza" at Berkshire Hills Country Club on Thursday, May 18 at 6 pm featuring nine pizza restaurants in the Berkshires. The event will be a fundraiser for the non-profit television station and sister radio station 89.7 WTBR-FM. The event will feature pizza from Anna's Pizza, Dalton HD Pizza, Dewey's Public House, KJ Nosh Catering, the Locker Room, Papa Joe's, Papa John's, PortaVia, and Zucco's Family Restaurant. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With an attorney hired and Spectrum contract negotiations set to begin in the fall, the Cable Advisory Committee wants to start the ascertainment process quickly.
Last week, the panel heard a draft timeline from attorney William Solomon, who was chosen to represent the city in its cable contract renewal. Pittsfield's 10-year contract ends in September 2024 and it is recommended that the negotiations take place over 12 months.
To secure an agreement that meets the needs of the wider community, public input will be gathered from various sectors throughout the summer and fall, including focus group meetings with the schools and city department

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is looking to bump up its police chief salary to ensure equity and attract potential candidates.
On Tuesday, the Personnel Review Board supported a reclassification of the position from a Grade M11 salary that would pay between $115,214 and $149,778 in the fiscal 2024 to a Grade M12 salary that ranges between $133,500 and $173,550.
"This request comes from some conversations we've been having internally to ensure not only external equity with this position but also internal equity," Human Resources Director Michael Taylor said.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Repair work is currently underway to address a water main break that has occurred at the intersection of Pearl Street and Fenn Street due to private utility construction work. Due to this, City Hall and 100 North Street will be closed for the remainder of the day. The city anticipates reopening City Hall and the offices at 100 North Street tomorrow, May 12, for normal business hours. Water service in the area will be temporarily shut off while repairs are underway.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — In light of a recent train derailment in Ohio that spread hazardous materials, the City Council heard of Pittsfield's plan for a similar situation if it were to happen.
"We haven't had a train derailment in Pittsfield in a long time. The last one was in Dalton and it happened to be a train car full of refrigerators. That doesn't mean it can't happen," Fire Chief Thomas Sammons said.
"Fortunately, the trains go very slow through Pittsfield because it's an urban environment and then once they get to Dalton they start to go uphill and they continue to head east."

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The fiscal 2024 budget season has been kicked off with nine orders from Mayor Linda Tyer referred to the Committee of the Whole.
The proposed operating budget for FY24 is $205,634,497 — almost $17,000,000 or 8.9 percent higher than last year's budget of $188,822,018.
This breaks down into $109,350,895 for city operations, $78,088,016 for the School Department, and $18,195,586 for the enterprise which includes the Department of Public Utilities water treatment, sewer, and wastewater.
On May 17, there will be the first public hearing on the 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan, the budget, and nine departments. There will also be budget hearings on May 24,
