Pittsfield Rotary Auction

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield Rotary Club will hold their annual auction, their largest fundraiser.   The annual auction will be held at Berkshire Hills Country Club Saturday April 1 starting at 5:00 p.m. The auction starts at 6:30 p.m.   This year's theme is Mardi Gras.   Each year, the Pittsfield Rotary Club distributes more than $90,000 in community support raised through special events, fundraisers, and donations during the year. The club's annual food drive results in food donated to local food banks, as well as $1,000 cash donations to each of ten local food pantries and kitchens.    The Club provides grants in support of activities for

Pittsfield Licensing Board OKs Bowling Alley, Hudpuckers

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Licensing Board heard of two local favorites' return on Monday.

An entertainment and bowling alley license was approved for K&M Bowling, which will have a grand opening on Friday in the former Imperial Bowl on Dalton Avenue. A liquor license transfer was also approved for the former Tahiti Takeout, which relatives of the shuttered Bobby Hudpuckers plan to reopen as "Hudpuckers."

City residents Kari and Mark Mathes and other family members renovated the candlepin alley into tenpin bowling after purchasing it in November. Robert Ireland ran the lanes for 45 years before retiring.

BCC to Hold 'Experience BCC'

Pittsfield Council OKs Springside House Funding

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With $1 million in funding secured, the second phase of Springside House renovations is a go.

The City Council on Tuesday accepted a $500,000 federal Save America's Treasures grant with a free cash match of $500,000 for interior renovations to the 160-year-old home.

An equal contribution from the city is a requirement of the award. Free cash was proposed for the allotment, as Pittsfield ended 2022 with a balance of around $17 million.

"When we have these historic properties, we need to make sure we're good stewards of them," Councilor at Large Peter White said.

Shoplifters Pinch $37K in Merchandise from Ulta Beauty

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Four people have been charged for lifting thousands of dollars in merchandise from the Ulta Beauty store in Berkshire Crossing.    Police were called to the store on Monday night by employees of the beauty products salon and arrested four people — two adults and two juveniles — who had more than $5,000 worth of products on them.    Raquan Cartre, 22, and Jonneasia Welcome, 19, both of Albany, N.Y., are now wanted after failing to appear in Cental Berkshire District Court on Tuesday   District Attorney Timothy Shugrue says more than $37,000 in total has been stolen in four separate incidents from Ulta Beauty just in the last

Dalton Select Board Reviews Collector, Debt Budgets

DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board continued its review of the proposed fiscal 2024 budget, going over the line items for the tax collector and town debt.    The tax collector's budget $122,013, up 9.41 percent largely from wage increases and software upgrades.    The collector's salary is increasing from $58,481 to $61,776 and the assistant from $37,608 to $39,031, both step increases.     The department is upgrading its software because the current iteration requires a restart every 30 days to reboot because it is still a disk-operating system, Tax Collector Melissa Davis said.   The upgrade is going to cost a one-time fee of $5,000 in

'Swatting' Call Evacuates PHS, Drury

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield High School and Drury High School in North Adams were evacuated late Tuesday morning because of false threats of violence.

The incident was identified as "swatting," in which a caller attempts to generate an emergency law enforcement response on a location under false pretenses. 

Earlier that morning, state law enforcement partners notified the department that several communities in eastern Massachusetts had received similar calls reporting critical incidents at schools. These incidents were from either one person or multiple people using the same name.

Pittsfield Traffic Commission OKs No Right on Red Signs

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Traffic Commission on Thursday voted in favor of two "No Right on Red" signs and heard plans for the intersection of Linden Street and Onota Street.

Councilor at Large Karen Kalinowsky requested signs that prohibit right turns on red lights at the intersection of North Street and Columbus Avenue and at the intersection of West Street and Center Street.

Community Wellness Program Berkshire 150 Enters Third Year

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) Wellness Program wants area residents to improve their health and well-being through the third year of Berkshire 150.    Berkshire 150 is a community wellness program promoting exercise over a 5-week period, with the goal of exercising at least 150 minutes a week. Pittsfield Cable Committee Seeks Lawyer Funds, Starts Ascertainment Plans

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council will tackle a $25,000 request on Tuesday from the Cable Advisory Committee to obtain legal counsel for the Spectrum contract renewal.

This includes a review of the license and charter, planning of ascertainment, gathering information on community needs, negotiations, and drafting the initial renewal license. The services from Stoneham attorney William Solomon come at a rate of $200 an hour.

Dalton Planning Board Approves Solar Energy Project Special Permit
