Pittsfield Roadwork for Week of Aug. 21

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The following road work is planned to take place starting Monday, Aug. 21.   Monday, Aug. 21: Paving first course of asphalt on Ann Drive and California Avenue Tuesday, Aug. 22, and Wednesday, Aug. 23: Paving first course of asphalt on Lakeway Drive, Allendale Road and Maryland Avenue Thursday, Aug. 24, and Friday, Aug. 25: Curbing installation on Almar Drive and Lakeway Drive   In addition, between Aug. 21-24, structures will be raised on Ann Drive, Brookside Drive, Almar Drive and Lakeway Drive.   This work will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and is subject to change based on weather or other unexpected circumstances. Pittsfield Senior Center Meet and Greet

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Thursday, Aug 31 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm there will be a 55 and older meet and greet at the Senior Center located at 330 North St.   Attendees can find out what is happening at the center as well as meet the center's program instructors.   Mayoral candidates will also be present.   There will be light refreshments, raffles, and music.

Forum: Climate Preparedness Can Mean Energy Savings

Thunder Three-Peat, Kraken Win Title in Debut Season in BABL

A back-and-forth championship series in the Berkshire Adult Baseball League’s 20-and-over division swung toward the Kraken on a big third-inning swing.   In the 33-and-over division, the league’s best team continued to show why they earned that title by holding on late to take a 3-2 win and a series sweep.   Seamus Morrison struck out five on Sunday morning in Dalton to lead the Berkshire Thunder to a 3-2 win over Tunnel City Freight as the Thunder finished the spring/summer season with a record of 18-0 and the program’s third straight BABL title.   At Hoosac Valley High School, a three-run bomb by Corey Meczywor propelled  the Northern Berkshire Kraken

Stormwater and Sewer Infrastructure Federal Grants

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the availability of nearly $50 million in regular funding through the Sewer Overflow and Stormwater Reuse Municipal Grant program to help communities address stormwater and sewer infrastructure needs.   States may now apply for grant assistance to fund projects that will help municipalities strengthen their stormwater collection systems against increasingly intense rain events made worse by the climate crisis and prevent contaminants from polluting waterways. DPU to Establish Process for Review of Municipal Aggregation Plans

BOSTON — The state Department of Public Utilities opened an investigation to establish municipal aggregation guidelines, with the goal of creating a more efficient and streamlined process for cities and towns to establish municipal aggregation programs for their residents and businesses.      The order opens an investigation, and includes proposed guidelines, as well as a proposed template municipal aggregation plan designed to aid municipalities in developing new municipal aggregation plans. EPA Seeks Applicants For Environmental Justice Technical Assistance Grants

BOSTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) New England Region Office announced a?grant competition for an "Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center"?(EJ TCTAC).?

The agency is offering this funding opportunity of up to $10 million to help communities and other environmental justice stakeholders in the New England states access federal assistance and resources to address environmental and energy justice concerns. The seasonal influence of what is normally a weaker August through September continued this week. All the averages have declined since the end of July and will continue to do so in the weeks ahead.   My expected pullback in the equity averages continued this week. So far in August, the S&P 500 Index is down 5 percent, the NASDAQ has fallen 7 percent-plus, while the Dow Jones industrials outperformed with a 2.4 percent decline.
