Dalton Planning Board Reviews Renewed Warren Landfill Solar Energy Project

DALTON, Mass. — The Planning Board is considering approving a solar energy project that could lower the cost of energy for both the town and its residents.    The nonprofit Citizens Energy Corp. started this project about nine years ago and was fully permitted back in 2014.    At the time, Citizens was awarded through a competitive procurement the opportunity to build a solar project on the town's closed landfill and developed a relationship with the landowner of the adjacent Warren farm so it could develop multiple landfills.    The project was declared not viable because the electrical grid could not accommodate it but with recent grid

State Gets Millions for COVID-19 Testing Costs

BOSTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be sending nearly $4.5 million to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to reimburse it for the cost of providing testing for daycare facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.   The $4,480,000 Public Assistance grant will reimburse the Massachusetts Department of Early Childhood Education and Care for contracting to provide testing services for early education and care (EEC) affiliated providers, staff, children, and families between March 2021 and June 2022.   The contractor operated mobile specimen collection sites, provided all equipment necessary for site operations, confirmed eligibility for testing, and handled

Drought Conditions Return to Normal Across Commonwealth

BOSTON — Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Rebecca Tepper declared the end of the drought in the Commonwealth, following five months of normal to above-normal precipitation and record-breaking warmth in January.    All seven regions are at Level 0-Normal Conditions, including the Islands Region, which was previously declared at a Level 2- Significant Drought, and the Northeast and Cape Cod Regions, which were at a Level-1 Mild Drought last month. It has been a week of consolidation. A string of downside negative surprises has kept the markets in check but has failed to break anything. Given the macroeconomic data, that has been impressive.   Both the monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the Producer Price Index (PPI) came in hotter than expected. The monthly CPI rose 0.5 percent, and the PPI came in at 0.7 percent. That spooked investors since higher inflation means the Fed will likely keep interest rates higher for longer. Yet, dip buyers took advantage of the declines and bid markets back up.   In addition, retail sales for January were almost double the average estimate, coming in at a 3 percent gain month over month
