Pittsfield Council Sees Fourth Quarter ARPA Funding UsesBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — About $1.6 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds were expended in the last quarter of 2022 with almost half being used to remedy negative economic impacts from the novel coronavirus.
About $742,000, or 46 percent, was spent in that category, and about $417,000, or 26 percent funded public health.
Nineteen percent, about $296,000, went toward infrastructure, about $83,000 for revenue replacement and about $65,000 for administrative costs accounted for the remaining nine percent.
In 2022, there was $5.3 million in ARPA monies spent. Of the city's nearly $41 million allocation, about $38 million has been obligated.

Dalton Boards Amend Information Technology Services Budget By Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff

DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board and Finance Committee voted to amend the Information Technology Services during their meetings this week. The revised budget increases the budget 4.41 percent bringing the total budget consisting of expenses only in the amount of $71,000. The previous budget was level funded from last year but the town's insurance agent has now developed requirements to maintain cyber security as part of the town's cybersecurity insurance. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announced that registration for summer class sessions is now open. Registration is open to MCLA students, interested community members, high school students, those pursuing a master's degree, and Berkshires-based college students who wish to earn credits toward their degree from another institution.  DALTON, Mass. — A long lost original copy of the founding charter of the Fire District was literally just filed away. The Historical Commission said at its Wednesday meeting that it had located the charter in a file cabinet under the Fire Department section in an Annual Reports of The Dalton Fire District pamphlet from April 10, 1885. Although the Fire District was established in 1884, co-Chair Debora Kovacs said she wanted to look through the pamphlet and was excited to discover the Act of the Establishment of the Dalton Fire District included in the report. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The district has had improvement in absences this year versus last year's overall attendance rate, Deputy Superintendent Marisa Mendonsa said during last week's school committee meeting. Morningside Community and Stearns Elementary had some stability from last year as there was not much fluctuation in the numbers. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Thursday Feb. 23 Jeremy Stanton, of Pittsfield, pleaded guilty to two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and one count of Threat to Commit a Crime. For the first Assault with Dangerous Weapon Stanton was charged to two years in the State House of Corrections, with one year to serve, the balance suspended for three years. Upon his release, Stanton is required to attend and complete the Keenan House North program. Once successfully completing the Keenan House North program, the defendant is sentenced to three years straight probation on the second count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
