Pittsfield Licensing Unhappy With Heavily Redacted Reports

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Licensing Board continued a hearing on Monday, saying its work was being stunted by heavily redacted, "almost indecipherable" police reports.   The show cause hearing was for two disturbances at Thistle and Mirth that occurred on Jan. 7 and Jan. 13.   The first incident was an argument that took place outside of the West Street restaurant and the second, which prompted a referral to the Licensing Board, resulted in a window being broken.   Board members felt that the reports provided by the Police Department did not allow them to make a well-informed decision because there were too many censored words. Berkshire Middle Registry Warns Residents of Mortgage Scam

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Registry of Deeds urges residents to use caution when signing property-related documents.

MV Realty PBC LLC — also known as MV of Massachusetts LLC — is being sued by the attorney general for allegedly using deceptive tactics that target financially struggling homeowners across the state. The Middle Berkshire Registry of Deeds shut down attempts to file these documents after only one was recorded.

Lanesborough Officials Say 'Barriers' to Police Station at Mall

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Select Board indicated there was no chance at this point of scuttling plans for the proposed police station and starting over at the former mall. 

JMJ RE Holdings LLC and JMJ Holdings Corp., which will soon be taking the title of the mall, sent a letter to the board offering space for police and emergency medical services in its proposed cannabis campus.

"We did consult with the [Police Station Steering Committee] and went through some previous minutes just to see what had been brought forward," Town Administrator Gina Dario said at Monday's meeting.

Zonta Period Project Collection

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Zonta Club of Berkshire County, a nonprofit organization, will begin its 7th spring Period Project collection for women in need.   This fund and supply raising program purchases and collects women's hygiene supplies for packaging and distribution to schools, service centers, food pantries, and organizations serving women and teens in need.   For women living in poverty or experiencing homelessness, having a period is a significant financial burden. It is challenging for women and teens to maintain proper hygiene and dignity when basic menstrual hygiene products are so costly. Additionally, pads and tampons are considered "non-essential"

Berkshire Planning Commission Examines Municipal Staffing Issues

Local Skiers Compete in U14 Slalom at Bousquet

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Sophie Lenoel Quang of the Bousquet Race Team on Sunday skied to a second place finish at the Tri-State Under-14 Championship at Bousquet Mountain.   Quang compiled a two-run slalom time of 1 minute, 38.19 seconds to finish behind Berkshire East's Marina Matviak (1:30.41).   Three Bousquet Race Team girls competed in the slalom race on their home mountain. Adelina Scalise-Lampiasi placed 43rd with a two-run time of 2:12.96. Aryanna Bouchard did not finish her first run but skied a time of 1:08.17 in her second run.   In the boys slalom event, five Bousquet Race Team racers competed.   Owen Tanner led the club with an eighth-place finish, posting

Governor Appoints State Police Interim Colonel

West Street Walkout Urges Pittsfield to Prioritize Safer Streets

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Following the death of a pedestrian in a West Street crosswalk, community members are demanding action for safer public ways.

On Saturday, the Pittsfield Community Design Center founder Nicholas Russo led a walking group through a portion of the corridor to show issues with navigation. The procession began at Dorothy Amos Park.

He explained that the event aimed to call attention to the crash that killed Pittsfield resident Shaloon Milord in January and the national trend of increasing traffic fatalities.

"We want to not contribute to those statistics," Russo said. "We want to get to zero deaths."

The Hoosac Valley and Wahconah girls basketball teams each came away with victories in all-Berkshire Couty finals on Western Mass tournament Championship Saturday

The day ended with the Drury boys giving Berkshire County a third championship on the day.

Hanna Shea scored 20 points Saturday to lead the Hurricanes to a 71-56 win over Lenox in the Class D final at Holyoke High School.    Down the road at Westfield High, Grace Wigington scored 23 to lead Wahconah past Pittsfield High, 61-49 in Class B.    The Taconic boys dropped their Class B final to Springfield International Charter, 57-51, despite 18 points from Tayvon Sandifer.    In the Class C hockey final,

FEMA Awards Over $1.3M to Mass for COVID-19 Vaccination Supplies

BOSTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be sending more than $1.3 million to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to reimburse it for the cost of vaccination supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.   The $1,343,707 Public Assistance grant will reimburse the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency for the cost of vaccination supplies.   "FEMA is pleased to be able to assist the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency with these costs," said FEMA Region 1 Regional Administrator Lori Ehrlich.
