Lee High School graduate Elizabeth Brown was named to the all-Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference first team this fall. Brown, a sophomore at MCLA, led the Trailblazers in digs, with 3.27 per set, and was third on the team in kills with 2.29 per set. She played in all 26 of MCLA's matches, starting 25, and had a season-high 18 kills in a five-set loss to Westfield State. Brown was named second-team all-league last fall after her first season at MCLA. But just in case it missed anyone, the venerable recreation center is throwing open its doors next Thursday as part of a weeklong celebration of the CRA's 100th anniversary. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Baseball now has a birthday in the city of Pittsfield. On Tuesday, the City Council unanimously voted to recognize Sept. 5 as the official birthday of baseball. The effort was led by Ward 5 Councilor Patrick Kavey and baseball enthusiast Phil Massery. Kavey thanked Mayor Linda Tyer for supporting the effort. She submitted a resolution for the council's approval at the meeting.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A local baseball legend is now immortalized at Clapp Park with a plaque marking his memorial field. Family, friends, and trainees of George "Buddy" Pellerin gathered at the West Housatonic Street ballfield on Saturday for the unveiling. Parks Commissioner and former player Cliff Nilan said there wasn't a day when Pellerin didn't give coaching a thought.
