Three BCC Classes Graduate at Joint Commencement

LENOX, Mass. — Berkshire Community College's classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022 moved their tassels to the left side of their graduation caps at Tanglewood on Friday.

The long-awaited in-person event came after two years of virtual commencements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was the first graduation ceremony to return to Tanglewood after three years. 

President Ellen Kennedy spoke of the circumstances that lead to the joint ceremony and emphasized the classes' resilience.

Despite the carnage caused by firearms, the business of manufacturing, marketing, and selling guns to Americans is thriving. What is worse, it appears that efforts to control and regulate the industry may only increase sales.   During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2021), gun purchases accelerated. More than 5 million adults becoming first-time gun owners compared to 2.4 million in 2019, according to a survey published by the Annals of Internal Medicine. Pittsfield Man Indicted on 48 Counts in Alleged Steel Building Scam

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Fred Senter, 40, is accused of contracting and accepting down payments from more than 40 victims to build steel structures with no intent to complete the work as owner of Northern Steel Building and Structure, LLC.   Senter allegedly stole more than $400,000 through false pretenses, and Senter allegedly operated the scam in five states between February 2020 and September 2021.   Berkshire Superior Court Court arraigned him on Thursday. Pittsfield Health Board Rescinds Verizon Cease & Desist Order

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Board of Health has voted to rescind its cease and desist order on the Verizon cell tower at 877 South St. after the telecommunications company filed a case against the city of Pittsfield in federal court.

Chair Bobbie Orsi said litigation is not the solution right now. Instead, the panel will pursue collaborative discussions to address the issue.

"When we issued the cease and desist order, we did that as a strategy to have a conversation with Verizon, I felt like that in our heart, in my heart, we really wanted them to come talk to us about this," she said at Wednesday's meeting.

Man Sentenced To 30 Years in Prison for Carnevale Shooting

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Judge Maureen Hogan sentenced Luis Delvalle-Rodriguez to serve 25 to 30 years in state prison and five years of probation afterward for shooting Nicholas Carnevale on Aug. 21, 2018 at a party at the Ashley Reservoir on October Mountain.   After a three-week jury trial, a Berkshire Superior Court Jury found the 27-year-old Delvalle-Rodriguez guilty last week of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed kidnapping with serious bodily injury, two counts of armed kidnapping, two counts of assault and battery, and malicious damage to a motor

Taconic High School Track Will Be Temporarily Closed

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Beginning Thursday, June 2, the track at Taconic High School will be closed to community use due to repairs to the rubberized track surface.    Work will continue through Sunday, June 5.   While the track is not open to public use, arrangements have been made to accommodate specific student activities on portions of the track.   Following this work, line marking is slated to occur within two weeks.
