It will actually feel like summer this weekend with temperatures in the 80s. Today Thursday, Aug. 31 there will be sunshine with temperatures in the low 70s. The same can be expected Friday but with warmer temperatures in the high 70s, reports AccuWeather. Saturday, Sept. 2 will be partly sunny with temperatures in the low 80s. Sunday will be mostly sunny and more humid with temperatures again in the low 80s. The lieutenant governor checks out a project in the maker laboratory. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll swung by Berkshire Community College on Wednesday for a tour of its educational facilities after making grant announcements in Stockbridge. President Ellen Kennedy led Driscoll through the college's One Stop Center for student services, the Berkshire Science Commons maker space, BCC's nursing labs, and renovations to the Hawthorne and Melville halls.
They were joined by Mayor Linda Tyer and state Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier.

 GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- The 24th annual Monument Cup 3-on-3 soccer tournament returns on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Monument Mountain Regional High School. The event features boys and girls divisions in the under-10, under-12 and under-14 age groups. Teams of three to four players are guaranteed at least three matches. The top four teams in each division advance to the semifinals, with the championship matches played on the varsity field. Teams are encouraged to wear their own handmade, creative uniforms.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Opening Reception will take place Sept. 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 during First Fridays Artswalk. Karen Chase is an abstract painter, and Paul Graubard paints narrative, visionary works. They are married. This show highlights their individual pieces and one collaborative piece. According to a press release: Paul began to paint about 25 years ago, giving up his practice as a psychologist. The first thing he did was buy a big roll of white paper, then went to the hardware store to buy a can of black paint. DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board is considering a climate-change policy to improve the town's chances of obtaining grants. This policy is a significant commitment because it sets requirements that the department heads and the Finance Committee has to follow, Select Board chair Joseph Diver said at last week's meeting. The board voted to postpone the decision until it can look into the topic further and until the policy is reviewed by Town Manager Thomas Hutcheson and department heads. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Kickoff Classic is back, and the regional soccer tournament, run by Pittsfield Soccer Club, will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 2 & 3 at Berkshire Community College (BCC) and Crosby Elementary School. More than 30 teams are signed up to participate. Games will be played throughout Saturday and Sunday. The Berkshire Kickoff Classic High School Jamboree will take place Friday night at BCC. Vietnam veteran Martha Green, who is portrayed on the mural, sings the national anthem and 'America the Beautiful.' PITTSFIELD, Mass.-— A memorial to the Vietnam War has a new life on Pearl Street after the mural was moved and revitalized.
On Tuesday, the city unveiled "Lest We Forget" mural in its new location surrounded by nearly 100 officials and community members.
The artwork honors and remembers Berkshire County's military personnel who were killed in action in Vietnam and veterans of the war who are living today.
"We are here today to honor that and remember these 27 veterans killed in action," said Fran Tremblay of Vietnam

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City clerk's office is preparing for a seamless election by testing all of the voting equipment.
On Tuesday, City Clerk Michele Benjamin, Assistant Clerk Heather Brazeau and Registrar of Voters Clerk Joshua Munn tested the ward and precinct ballot machines. The city has seven wards with each having a Precinct A and B.
For Benjamin, this election is protocol as usual.
"It's the same thing all the time," she said. "We don't do anything different."
The state requires that all machines be tested before they are sent out to the polls. Zero tapes are run to prove that there is no data on the storage cards and 50 test ballots

 BOSTON —The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is reminding drivers that applications for the 2023 Low Number Plate Lottery are available online at myRMV Online Service Center and must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023. Winners will be notified by mail if selected for a low-number plate. This year, there are 191 plates available through the low plate lottery. Some of the available low plates include 13F, 17V, 28E, Z64, 301, 1999, 4004, 4400, and 8511. Applicants should note that there is no fee to apply for the lottery. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — On Aug. 24, Antonio Laboy, 26 of Springfield, was arrested during a traffic stop by the North Adams Police Department involving two vehicles. According to a report from the District Attorney's Office, the traffic stop was made on the grounds of an active investigation into drug trafficking in North County. The stops occurred on Church Street in North Adams, shortly after the vehicles crossed from Adams into North Adams. Laboy was a passenger in one of the vehicles at the time of the stop.
