BCC Signs Articulation Agreement with William James College

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) announces the signature of an articulation agreement with William James College (WJC) in Newton allowing BCC students to transfer seamlessly to WJC.     The articulation agreement provides guaranteed admission for eligible BCC students to obtain a bachelor of science degree from WJC. Students who have completed an associate degree at BCC with a minimum of 60 credits in Liberal Arts (no concentration), Liberal Arts with Psychology Concentration, Human Services/Social Work Transfer or Criminal Justice, with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher, are guaranteed admission in WJC's Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Human

Central Berkshire Reviews Regional Agreement Draft

DALTON, Mass. — Central Berkshire Regional School District is referring a draft of a new regional agreement to its lawyers to ensure clarity.    The School Committee meeting was presented the draft on Thursday by Todd Emerson, chair of the Regional Agreement Amendment Ad Hoc Committee.   The ad hoc committee has been working on the draft for the past year and received aid from Massachusetts Association of Regional Schools consultant Stephan Hemman. MARS serves as a consultant to aid districts in creating regional agreements between towns.    The draft was worked on by representatives from all the town's involved, not just School Committee

Pittsfield Charter Committee to Review Charter Objection

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Charter Review Committee on Tuesday will tackle a request to review the charter objection, a motion that has delayed votes and created a stir in council chambers over the last term.

Councilor at Large Peter White will present a petition to the panel that asks "Should the charter objection be eliminated or otherwise amended?"

Central Berkshire OKs Locked Cell Phone Pouches

DALTON, Mass. — The Central Berkshire Regional School Committee approved utilizing Yondr pouches in its middle and high schools during its meeting on Thursday night.    The pouches allow cell phones and other devices to be locked magnetically so they cannot be used during school hours.    The district was approved for a $20,000 grant to cover the first year costs of the initiative. The funds will cover the cost of the pouches, replacement pouches, training, the permanent infrastructure, including the magnet installations, and support during this change.    The goal of the policy change is to help students be more engaged in school and to prevent students

Berkshire Museum Exhibition Partnership with Second Street

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Museum announces Insight Out, an exhibition of visual art created by presently and formerly incarcerated people in Berkshire County, in partnership with Second Street Second Chances, Inc.    The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday, Sept. 2 and remains on view through Sunday, Oct. 1.   Artists whose work is included in the exhibition will receive a cash award of $200, provided by 2nd Street, and a family membership to Berkshire Museum.    If the artists choose, their works may be purchased by members of the public following the closing of the exhibition. Governor Launches Free Community College Program

17 Pittsfield Officers on POST Misconduct Database

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Seventeen Pittsfield Police officers can be found in the state's Peace Officer Training Standards Commission's misconduct database with allegations ranging from neglect of duty to racial bias and associating with known criminals.

Some of the incidents date back more than a decade.

Celia Armstrong started as a substitute and fell in love with the job.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The August Teacher of the Month is 18 Degrees prekindergarten teacher Celia Armstrong.    The Teacher of the Month series runs for the next nine months in partnership with Berkshire Community College.   Armstrong has been working in the education field for the last four years, getting her start as a substitute at 18 Degrees.    She was looking for a position that would provide flexible hours while she attended Berkshire Community College and was referred to 18 Degrees by a friend. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) announced the addition of eight new staff members, a promotion and a title change.      New staff     Sheaden Callahan joins the BCC SUCCESS team as Clerk IV. She graduated from MCLA with a bachelor's degree in psychology and has resided in the area since then. Previously, she was a registration and reception assistant for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at BCC. As the clerk for the SUCCESS department, Callahan connects students to campus resources such as academic coaching, workshops and visits to four-year schools. Community Compact Grant Applications Open

Pittsfield Celebrates Holmes Road Bridge Opening

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Community members and officials celebrated the opening of the Holmes Road bridge on Friday afternoon as the first cars passed over the finally completed span.

After a more than 60-day shutdown, the structure was finished on schedule and returned to two lanes for the first time in four years.

Pittsfield to Unveil New Vietnam War Mural

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A new mural remembering the county's servicemen killed in action in Vietnam, "Lest We Forget 1961-1975," will be unveiled on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m.   This event had been postponed from July 7 because of engineering requirements.   The unveiling is being done by the city of Pittsfield in partnership with Vietnam Veterans of America James E. Callahan Berkshire County Chapter 65.   The mural was painted by Ghi Sign Co. off Canaan, Conn., on the north side of the Intertek Building located at 50 Pearl St. and references the original from 1991.
