Jimmy Fund Fund-Raiser Returns June 28

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – A local fund-raiser for the Jimmy Fund keeps getting bigger and bigger.   Striking out Cancer in the Berkshires returns for a fifth year on Saturday, June 28, on Buddy Pellerin Field at Clapp Park.   Organizer Joe DiCicco, who started the event in 2021 in honor of his late wife, never expected to still be planning for the event five years later.   “It is amazing,” he said recently. “I just didn’t know what to expect five years ago, but every year it gets bigger.”   And it gets more successful.   In 2024, Striking Out Cancer in the Berkshires raised $10,400, its best year yet, adding to a total of close to

BHS Opens Registration for Annual 4th of July 5K Race

PITTSFIELD, Mass — Registration has begun for the annual Berkshire Health Systems 4th of July 5K Race, held just prior to the Pittsfield Fourth of July Parade.    In 2024 over one thousand runners participated in the 5K, which runs along the parade route in downtown Pittsfield.   Registration is $35 for adult runners who register prior to July 1st, and $40 for adult in-person registration at the Berkshire Running Center on July 2 or 3. Pittsfield Announces Community Bike Ride for Berkshire Bike Month

PITTSFIELD, Mass.— The City of Pittsfield's Department of Community Development Recreation Program, in collaboration with the Berkshire Pike Path Council and Berkshire Bike & Board, will host a Community Bike Ride on Sunday, May 25, at the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail.

The bike ride will commence at 10 a.m. from the Crane Ave trailhead, located at 886 Crane Ave. Participants are invited to arrive at 9:30 a.m. for bike decorating and safety checks. Riders can choose between a shorter route to the Berkshire Mall trailhead and back, or a longer route to Farnham's Crossing in Cheshire and return.

Steel Rail Races Return Sunday

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The MountainOne Steel Rail Races will be held on Sunday, May 18, beginning at 7:30 a.m. with a Boston Qualifying Marathon followed by a Half Marathon at 8:30 and an 8K race at 9.   The events will start and finish at the Crane Avenue entrance to the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail.   Route 8 access to the Route 8 Connector Rd will be closed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The runners begin in Pittsfield following the rail trail north, then will cross Route 8 in Cheshire as they continue to Adams and back.   Race directors ask the community to expect delays in traffic.   More than 650 registered runners from 23 states including runners traveling over 2,600 miles

CIAO Soccer Hall of Fame Inducts Members, Awards Scholarships

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The CIAO Soccer Hall of Fame induction and scholarship banquet was held on Thursday, May 8, at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.   The 2025 inductees were honored, and 21 scholarships were presented to one boy and one girl senior soccer player from each high school in the county (chosen by their high school coaches).      Committee Chairmen Al Belanger and Patrick West introduced inductees and scholarship winners at the event. Bishop Earns Conference Honor at St. Michael's

St. Michael's College first-year catcher and Drury High School graduate Brooke Bishop was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week in mid-April.   Bishop went .389 at the plate with a .667 slugging percentage and .450 on-base percentage in a 3-3 week for the Purple Knights to earn the honor on April 21.   Last week, St. Michael's was eliminated in the NE10 tournament with a 2-0 loss to top-seed Pace, the No. 15-ranked team in Division II at the time.   Needing two wins against Pace to advance in the tourney, St. Michael's won Game 1, when Bishop went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Berkshire County Runners Take on Boston Marathon

BOSTON – Great Barrington’s Laura Stephen was the highest finishing Berkshire County resident at Monday’s Boston Marathon.   Stephen ran a time of 3 hours, 40 minutes, 25 seconds to place 33rd in the women’s division for runners aged 60 to 64.   At least a dozen Berkshire County residents were listed on the Boston Athletic Association’s finishers at the 129th running of the event.   Sharon Lokedi of Kenya won the women’s race with a record-setting time of 2:17:22.   Her fellow Kenyan, John Korir, won the men’s race in 2:04:45.   The fastest Berkshire County finisher was Lenox Memorial graduate Ted Yee, now a student at

BCC to Host Women's Volleyball Letter of Intent Signing Press Conference

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Pittsfield High boys soccer program will hold a 7-on-7 tournament in May to support the family of a teammate who recently received a heart transplant.   The AJ's Beating Heart 7V7 Tournament will benefit A.J. Riello, a ninth-grader at PHS who underwent succesful surgery earlier this month.   The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, at Heberg Middle School.   The cost to enter is $5 per player.   The tournament is for teams of eight to 12 players of all ages.
